The active ingredient in aspirin, a natural anti-inflammatory and exfoliant used in the treatment of acne and preparations for oily skin. Applied topically, it penetrates the follicle and encourages the shedding of dead skin cells from within, breaking up oil deposits and debris that can cause blocked pores and blemishes. Natural sources of salicylic acid include willow bark extract (Salix nigra) and wintergreen oil (Gaultheria procumbens).
