Beta Vulgaris (Beetroot) Extract

Beets are known for their incredible anti-oxidant power and rich nutrient value. They are a common ingredient in many cleansing regimens, because they provide so many different benefits for the human body. They grow all across the Americas and Europe, and are mainly harvested for the plump "beetroot" that grows underground.

Aubrey® use beetroot extract in their Revitalizing, Age-Defying, Calming and Clarifying toners, because it provides a clean, nutritious moisture for the skin. Beetroot in Vivo Study

4 volunteers, age 23-36, were given a single application of 1% beetroot extract in a test cream.

After application, their skin was measured every two hours by corneometer, and was found to hold an increased hydration level for over 8 hours.

Aster Tripolium (Sea Aster) Extract

Sea Aster is found in salty waters along the shoreline of Northern Europe, and is very resistant to salt, wind and waves. Even though the flowers look delicate, the plant is often found in the areas of the shore where the harshest waves hit. Built for resiliency, it is filled with strengthening nutrients.

Sea Aster extract naturally combats redness and sensitivity. Moreover, the rich nutrients in Sea Aster extract promote hydrated, healthy skin. Aubrey® uses Sea Aster extract in EVERY one of our Calming Skin Therapy products.

The whole line of products is based around this particular ingredient for one reason: it is extremely effective. Sensitive skin can react adversely to many petrochemicals that may not bother other skin types, so shopping naturally is particularly beneficial for those with these sensitivities. As shown in clinical studies performed independently of Aubrey Organics, Inc., Sea Aster extract proved to be a highly effective natural ingredient.

Sea Aster Extract in Vivo Study (Studied on Real Human Volunteers)

20 volunteers (both male and female) from age 30 to 65 applied Sea Aster extract in a test cream twice daily for 28 days. Every volunteer had a history of some type of skin redness, whether permanent or transitory. At the end of 28 days, they participated in a self-evaluation test to measure the results. This is what they reported:

80% of the volunteers perceived an improvement of the skin quality
90% of the volunteers perceived smoother skin
80% of the volunteers perceived an improvement of the skin firmness
100% of volunteers perceived an improvement of the hydration level
75% would buy the product

Carnosine, Milk Thistle and Vitamin E

Clinical tests demonstrate topical application of carnosine (an amino acid) and vitamin E, two powerful antioxidants, plus milk thistle extract, a detoxifier, resulted in increased firmness and hydration, and advanced anti-wrinkle and anti-glycation activity on the skin.

Glycation happens when sugar molecules bind to collagen and elastin proteins in the skin to form damaging free radicals (not unlike the free radicals caused by too much sun). Free radicals are a primary cause of aging. They lead to inflammation, which in turn breaks down the skin's connective tissue, resulting in wrinkles, yellowing of the skin, loss of elasticity due to a hardening of collagen and elastin fibers in the dermis, and other visible signs of aging.

Studies conducted over 28 days show a synergistic blend of these three ingredients in a liposome delivery system helps stop glycation by preventing glucose/collagen bonds from forming and breaking down free radicals already present in the skin.

Rejuvenating Properties of Carnosine, Milk Thistle & Vitamin E

This study involved 20 women ages 38 to 65. A test cream containing a liposome preparation of 2% carnosine, milk thistle and vitamin E was applied to the inner forearm of the subjects twice a day for 28 days.

Biomechanical properties of the skin were then evaluated by determining the skin's firmness, hydration and smoothness. Results showed this preparation improved all parameters in all subjects after 28 days of treatment when compared to untreated skin.

A test cream containing a liposome preparation of 2% carnosine, milk thistle and vitamin E was applied twice daily for 28 days to the crow's feet and foreheads of 20 women ages 38 to 65.

Wrinkle depth was evaluated after 14 days of treatment and again after 28 days. Results showed that at the 14 day mark, the depth of wrinkles was somewhat diminished. After 28 days of treatment, depth of wrinkles had been reduced by 27% in the crow's feet area, and by 24% on the forehead

In Vivo Hydration Study*

Results showed glacier water liposomes significantly increased and maintained skin hydration when compared to the placebo:

8 hours after application, the skin's moisture content remained at more than 22.9% with a 5% glacier water application, compared to only 9.9% with the placebo.

24 hours after application, hydration with the 5% glacier water liposomes gel remained at 10.3% compared to only 1.2% with placebo

Laminaria Ochroleuca (Golden Seaweed) Extract

Aubrey® have always been committed to finding natural solutions to any personal care problem. Aubrey® was the first to ever use Laminaria Ochroleuca, also known as "golden seaweed," in skin care products.

Golden seaweed naturally defends the skin from daily stressors. Found along the coasts of Ireland and Great Britain, it holds onto rocks in tidal areas, and is most notable for its beautiful yellow-gold fronds. Because it is found in shallow water, it is often exposed to harsh sunlight, and has developed its own protective mechanism to combat the effects of UVA and UVB rays. Rich in nutrients, this extract helps smooth and hydrate the skin.

Aubrey® uses golden seaweed extract in their Age-Defying Moisturiser and SPF 15 Defense Moisturiser, because of its clinically proven effectiveness. In a study performed independently of Aubrey Organics, Inc.,

20 individuals tested Laminaria Ochroleuca extract in a test cream for 56 days to measure its anti-wrinkle properties. At the end of the study, 80% of the volunteers saw significant reduction in the appearance of wrinkle depth (see study below).

20 volunteers from age 35 to 55 applied a 2% concentration of Laminaria Ochroleuca extract in a test cream once a day for 56 days. After 56 days, their skin was evaluated in comparison to the first day of the study.

These were the results:

80% of the volunteers had significant reduction in the appearance of wrinkle depth.
The Laminaria Ochroleuca extract also had significant effects on the hydration, firmness, and smoothness of the skin.

20 volunteers with an average age of 49.9 years used the Alaria Esculenta extract in a test cream for 28 days, applying it twice daily.

After 28 days, the researchers measured the volunteers' skin by cutometer, and found a 25% increase in firmness, and 20% increase in elasticity.
